Nurse Assistant (CNA)

Students of the CNA program will be prepared for positions in the healthcare field as Certified Nurse Assistants in a convalescent hospital setting, or later, in an acute care facility or specialty clinics. The nursing field is booming all over the nation and particularly in the greater Los Angeles area. A CNA has many opportunities for further education and professional growth.

CNA I: INTRODUCTION TO NURSING (RIGHTS, INTERPERSONAL SKILLS, MANAGEMENT)

Students are instructed in requirements for Nurse Assistant certification, health and safety codes, federal regulations, interpersonal skills, prevent and management techniques.

CNA II: TECHNICAL ASPECTS OF NURSING (BODY MECHANICS, MEDICAL/SURGICAL ASEPSIS, WEIGHTS AND MEASURES, PATIENT CARE/SKILLS/PROCEDURES)

Students are instructed in the technical aspects of nursing including body mechanics, positioning, medical and surgical asepsis, weights and measures, and patient care.

CNA III: NUTRITION, VITAL SIGNS, EMERGENCY PROCEDURES

Students are instructed on the finer points of nutrition, vital signs, and emergency procedures including the measurement of vital signs, feeding techniques, and immediate intervention.

CNA IV: PATIENT CARE AND SITUATIONAL EFFECTIVENESS (LONG-TERM PATIENT CARE, REHABILITATIVE NURSING, OBSERVATION/CHARTING, DEATH AND DYING, SUB-ACUTE CARE, CPR)

This module combines both lecture and practical application and lab in the subjects listed above including serving the needs of patients with developmental and mental disorders, rehabilitation nursing, observation and charting of patients and the different ways in which death and dying are dealt.
